GolfLogix 2008 Review, By Rick (Denver, Colorado)

I had one of the early models made by SkyCaddie, and this device is far superior. It's easier to use, holds 20 downloaded courses (as opposed to 10), finds the course you are at (as opposed to scrolling through a list), is waterproof (as opposed to water resistant), cost far less to get a one year membership to downloadable courses, and turns on in seconds with distances (as opposed to minutes). The 2008 model measures the distance from your last shot so you can tell how far you are hitting each club.

It's very easy to use. Just turn it on. I had no trouble downloading the courses, and I am a Mac user with the Mac Leopard operating system. The Garmin algorithn for finding distances is quick and accurate.

I really like it and can't imaging playing golf without it!

GolfLogix works, By Sill (PA)

As the title suggest, this product does exactly what it says it will do. Very reliable. A big plus is the ease of using the software to load and to modify the course selections. Very simple and straightforward. Nice product.

Golflogix GPS-Garmin 2008 model, By A golf dude (Wichita Ks)

I am very happy with this unit. I have found it to be accurate when conparing it with other GPS units as well as course markings. Very handy when a hazard is not in view like a stream or bunkers. I think the course selection Golflogix offers is also very good, and reasonably priced. My new golf toy....and I like it.

Love It!!!, By T. Healer (Michigan)

This GPS is excellent. My course was available and has a very detailed profile, showing distances to hazards, doglegs and lay-up distances. A lot of people I play golf with have Sky Caddies and they all like this GPS better. Works great, very accurate and very easy to use. I use rechargable batteries and they last about 4-5 rounds before changing. I don't know how I got along without one of these for so long. Highly recommend this product.

You Won't Be Disappointed, By Sam S. (US)

I got the Upro a couple of weeks ago. Hooked it up to my mac, which has Parallel, and Vista installed on it. I had trouble getting the Upro to load up,so I grabbed my laptop running windows XP,and was off and running. I found my home course that wasn't mapped yet and requested it. 4 business days later I had my course mapped, just like Upro promises.

I have played 2 rounds using the Upro and this thing is awesome. It is very accurate with yardage and with hazards. It is very simple to navigate thru the different screens on the Upro, pro mode vs basic mode. My only complaints with this product so far is that the screen in pro mode is a little hard to see in the sun, but basic mode is just fine.

The aerial images are not as crisp and clear as it leads you to believe by watching the demo on Upros website.
As one reviewer said no manual, but really no big deal, just go to Upros website and download the pdf manual to you computer.
Bottomline, great gps device, happy with my purchase, and recommend it if your in the market to buy a gps.

Amazing Product!, By M. Cook (Seattle, WA)

Beats every other golf GPS distance measuring unit on the market! Visuals you see of the hole are just like you see on a TV telecast. No little stick-figure drawings of the hole like on competitors units. Measuring how far you hit it or how far you have from where you are to a hazard or the hole is invaluable. Buy one, you'll see what I mean!

upro gps best for golf geeks, By David M. (Orange, CT)

I have used the Sky Caddie in the past, but, once my yearly subscription ended I chose to wait to renew until I saw the Upro. I have been playing with it for 2 weeks now. Initially my home course was not mapped, but within 4 days it was. The flyovers although not perfect are exceptionally helpful when playing a new course. Also very helpful is viewing the hole with an actual photo and being able to measure to any spot from where you are on the course. I know that it will be about a year before all courses are mapped, however, hands down this blows away the sky caddie for size, features and capability. If you are comfortable with technology you will love it. If you are a technophobe try something else.

uPro versus SkyCaddie, By D. Kunder (USA)

uPro shows yardage on an aerial view of a hole which is much more informative than the cryptic notation of SkyCaddie. It's also somewhat smaller.

On the negative side, the GPS is slower to acquire distances and it times itself out all too frequently (45 sec. max)and then is slow in updating distances. Also, the 'Auto Hole Advance' is not automatic, requiring several button presses to get to the next hole.

For a course that's familiar, the SkyCaddie gets the nod (because of the time-out problem) while for a new/strange course the aerial feature of the uPro is superior.

I love this product, By Gregory "GolferGreg" (Everett, WA United States)

I bought the SkyCaddie 2.5 after a lot of research and reviews. Spoke with SkyGolf sales and was told the SG3 and SG4 were being discontinued. The 2.5 and SG5 were the replacements because of software problems in the past. I purchased locally and went online and subscribed to the nationwide option because I live in Washington state and travel frequently. I use Vista and had no problems at all getting started. I change my downloaded courses often and have had no issues.

Playing with the 2.5 has been great. I am dialing in the yardage with each club very accurately using the mark function. On the occasional wrong fairway drive, I used the 2.5 to not only get me the yardage, but I quickly got out of the way of the golfers playing the correct fairway. One hole in particular, I was 1 1/2 fairways to the right (it was really windy...LOL) skycaddie said I was 159 to the front(from where I was) 169 to the center, pulled my 7 iron and put it within 3 ft. Definitely has reduced my score, am getting more one-putts for birdies, and is a big hit with anyone I play with. I turn it on at the golf course while unloading my clubs and it has locked on to sattelites everytime before I finish putting on my golf shoes. I have had no problems that others have had and I love this caddie on my bag.

Bill's Review, By That SOB (Smilin' Ol' Bill) "Senior Golfer" (Minneapolis)

Have used the Sky Caddie for several weeks and find it really a helpful gadget. If you stay in the fairway, and distace markers are visble, it still helps by avoiding the pacing and estimating normally done. And if you're off the fairway, as we often are, it's invaluable. A great item!

A Must For Serious Golfers, By Tiger To Be "Tiger2" (Atlanta, GA USA)

After getting the SkyCaddie SG2.5, dropped at least two strokes off my score. It makes a world of difference knowing your distances vs. just guessing. I can now make a confident swing know that I've selected the correct club for that distance!

Good Product, By T. Rupp "Golf Anyone?" (Pembroke Pines, FL)

I like the SkyCaddy SG2.5 GPS rangefinder. I only play a couple of different courses and they are already mapped in the database. I like knowing the prescise yardage to the pin and this is made possible by having the ability to use the cusrsor keys to move the location of the flag placement on the iGreen display.

This unit is wonderful. Loaded like a charm. The Subscription was about $40 for a year and you can load 10 courses for this rate. There are higher subscription rates if you'd like to have more courses or even international courses. Change courses as often as you like.

This even had the specs for my favorite "remodeled" course which was finished in February. Very up-to-date info.

Accurate! Will measure to the center of the green and will even measure your drive distance. Problem is, when other people on the course see my skycaddie that all want to "play" with it. It can slow down the game.

Great Golf GPS!, By sjames (San Jose, CA)

I have had no issues with the SkyCaddie. I actually returned the GolfLogix due to issues with accuracy and difficulty reading the screen. The SkyCaddie is easy to operate, read, and is incredibly useful. I also prefer the number of golf courses GolfCaddie offers...and for $29 bucks a year...please, this is cheap folks! I did download the new Onyx screen theme and had no issues. I am using Mac, and it works great. They even guarantee that if you don't reduce your overall strokes per game you can return the unit...that is confidence! If the PGA and all the Pros and my local PGA/Country Club are using SkyCaddies...that is very telling Get One, you will love it!

Works Like a Charm, By Gary D (Detroit, MI USA)

I am not sure what is causing the problems of the previous two reviewers but my SG5 works great as advertised. Syncing up was no issue and I had 10 courses in the unit in a matter of 30 minutes. Accuracy on the course seems to be very good and I haven't found a course that isn't in their database. There may be better GPS units available but the course database is the key in my decision to purchase a Skycaddie. Hands down, they have the largest database for the U.S. and Canada which is my primary interest.

I am sure that the next generation of Golf GPS's will have pictures of each hole with all of the same courses as in the database today. But, until then, this is a very good unit.

Stroke Saver, By dgolfnut (Bear, DE)

I recently bought the SG5 and have used it for 8 rounds. I also own a Bushnell range finder (without pin seeker). I find the SG5 much more useful. The biggest advantage is knowing the distance to the front, middle and back of the green from any angle of approach. Blind or uphill doesn't matter a bit. I'm learning exactly what swing it takes to go different distances from 100 yards in. The layup distances are very helpful. My third time out using it I shot the best round of my life.

I am still carrying the Bushnell, but have only used it once since I got the SG5. Every course in my area (DE) that I play has been mapped and is available for download. All those on my planned golf vacation next week are mapped. I looked up some courses I have played in Phoenix and Florida and they were already mapped. You can check their website to see if the courses you normally play are done.

I bought the car charger so I can plug it in my car and not risk forgetting and leaving it home on charge. This has worked out great.

Its also helped me learn exactly how much carry I can expect on a good shot which has helped me get the ball closer to the pin or given me a shorter chip. My handicap has dropped from 13 to 11 so far.

My only wish would be that you could download the courses to your computer and then transfer them to the SG5 without the annual membership. I would be willing to pay a few bucks for to add an additional course I was going to play when I download it. 95% of the time I play the same 10 or 15 courses.

Overall - this thing ROCKS!

Big help!, By Golf fan (Frisco, TX)

I wasn't too sure about whether to buy a GPS or a laser rangefinder. Both have pros and cons, but I'm glad I chose to go with the Bushnell Yardage Pro Pinseeker 1500 Slope Edition.

I have a buddy that has a Sky Caddie GPS and it seems to work fine. However, often the battery runs down and about half way through the round, we're out of luck. When we first used my Bushnell, he was asking me for precise measurements. It's nice to know exactly what club I should pull.

It does take a little getting use to though. You have to make sure your hand is steady and that you're hitting the target you're shooting. Other than that, which really isn't a big deal, it's great! I look forward to many happy rounds with my personal caddie.

Better than anticipated, By Karen (Albuquerque, NM United States)

I bought this for my husband who is an avid golfer to replace an much older version. We were amazed at how well the 1500 picks up the flag and cuts out the background. He is not real steady, but that doesn't seem to matter. He is thrilled with this product and prefers it over the Sky Caddie.

this product will improve your game, By Richard (concord, california)

tired of guessing at the yardage to the pin or a fairway bunker? the golf pinseeker speeds up the game and helps you determine the exact distance to the pin, or a fairway bunker, before you select your club. I can't rely on my eyesight or judgement to determine distance so I used to spend alot of time looking for fairway yardage markers and then adjusting for my ball position. before i purchased the golf pinseeker i looked at prologix and skycaddie and decided that this product was more flexible, and less expensive, for my needs. a must buy.

Strongly prefer this over GPS, By Ralph (Austin, TX)

GPS and laser rangefinder (LRF) technologies each have distinct pros and cons. I chose the LRF mainly because 1) it got better reviews from users, 2) it doesn't require course loading, 3) it doesn't require annual fees and 4) I was impressed with it when I saw a friend use it. But I still wasn't sure how much its negatives vs GPS (mainly the line of sight requirement) would diminish its usefulness on the course.

Now that I've used it for a few rounds, I'm really enamored with it. It's much more flexible than I thought it would be. One thing I don't like about GPS units is that they haven't mapped enough points from tee to green. With the LRF I can always find some useful target to measure. A tree, bunker, 150 pole, a person, a mound, etc, etc.

GPS companies will say that the most useful yardages are to front, middle and back of greens. That's arguable. For me, having the distance to the pin +/- 1 yard is amazing. On most courses you at least know if the pin is cut front, middle or back. With that info and the exact yardage to the hole, I step up with a lot of confidence in my club and shot selection.

Yes, I find it gets a bit more tricky to hit the flag from about 220 and beyond, but I've found tricks to get better at that and you will too. Plus, if I'm over 200, I just make sure that I have some clue where I am as a sanity check. If Bushnell figures out how to incorporate optical image stabalization into these units, that'll make them even better. But for now this is just fine.

Some people wonder if having to look through the binoculars as opposed to looking down at a GPS unit is a disadvantage. For me it's a non-issue in part because the LRF locks on target so quickly.

I love this golf gadget. It sure makes the round more pleasant than pacing off yardages, speeds pace of play, and I can honestly say that I think it's saving me strokes already. What a great toy. Get it as a gift if you can.

Dialed in!!, By Golf Addict (Santa Monica, CA United States)

I think this optical instrument should be mandatory on all golf courses. Just as iPods have obviated CDs, this device will completely obviate the need for yardages on sprinkler heads and the like. Here's my normal round without the Bushnell Pinseeker: I drive out in the fairway -- hopefully -- and then have to find a sprinkler head. From there I have to pace it off to my ball. I get a yardage, but that's to the center of the green. At my home course I go to a pin sheet which has a crude outline of the green with four numbers on the green -- back left, back right, front left, front center. Now, assuming we're playing the back left number, I have to do some speculative math to determine how far back left the pin is, add that to the yardage ... you get the picture. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!! The Bushnell zeroes in on the flag and gives me an exact-to-the-pin yardage every time. DO NOT get the cheaper versions as the optics are not good and it's almost impossible to lock in on the flag -- you will be terribly disappointed if you get the under $200 one. And the one that factors in slope is not USGA legal. I just finished a round at famous Riviera C.C. I had a caddy. He was calculating yardages for both me and my partner and he was amazingly accurate, but the time he wasted pacing off yardages from sprinkler heads ... and whenever someone hit it right or left in the Eucalyptuses he relied heavily on my Bushnell for the yardages. And he was not spot-on with his distances. This has been by far the best new thing I have put in my bag. It's a little pricey but then no one thinks about spending $400 for that new driver that does nothing to improve their swing. One thing the Bushnell has done is to really refine my iron distances. I'm a single digit handicap and this beautiful little instrument has just been a fantastic addition. I don't work for the company and I think their cheaper products are garbage. But this little guy is a beaut.

Pinseeker 1500-Awesome-Worth the extra money!, By golf hacker, By Golf Addict (United States)

Surprised my husband with the Pinseeker 1500 for Christmas, we "BOTH" love it!! It is soooo "user friendly" and best of all "visually" user friendly! GREAT for the visually impaired over age "40" group who depend on the "Walgreen's" reading glasses! No need for glasses or lenghty instruction books-just aim at the flag and click the button-shows two distances. The actual distance and the distance it should play because of the slope!! Having the SLOPE FINDER is the most important aspect-this is what gives you the ACCURATE yardage. The "slope" differance" is what normally what makes the difference of which club to use. Many of the cheaper models do not allow for the slope-so what good is that, there's plenty yard markers on a course? It was fun to see what the course yardage markers read and then what the scope finder tells you. Makes your club selection so much more accurate! It's price is on the higher side, but for the quality, it's WELL worth it. My husband had tried a friends cheaper version, he actually could not use it because it was so hard visually to read. Before you buy one, be sure to check that out! Word of warning, your golfing partners will love to be in your golf group, asking you the yardage on "their" shots too!!

As another viewer mentioned-it's the best club in the bag, we HIGHLY reccomend it!!! Now....if it could only make the ball actually go to that exact spot, we'd all be happy golfers!!!

Great Game Improvement and Easy to Use, By CardBord (Rochester, MN)

The Bushnell Pinseeker 1500 Rangefinder (non-slope model) is easy to use and constructed for the elements. After using the Pinseeker for a few rounds I quickly learned how to focus and acquire the desired target in a matter of seconds. As I walk up to my ball I pull out the rangefinder, acquire the target, put it back in the case and hit the shot without adding more then 10 seconds to my preshot routine. This rangefinder is most definately a game improvement device and has helped me to select the right club, and in many cases made me aware that I needed to change clubs.

In my opinion it is better then the GPS devices whereas you must have a course loaded or manually enter the course info beforehand. If you ride in a golf car with GPS and are subject to cart path only, then the point where your ball lies will only be an estimate of the actual yardage. The Pinseeker can go to any course in the world and be used immediately on any part of the course.

If you are looking for a device that will help with club selection and game imporvement, then I would highly recommend the Pinseeker 1500.

A substantial improvement over earlier iterations of this same product, By Jan (USA)

This is a beautifully constructed laser instrument for accurately measuring your distance to the pin or to any obstacle on the course. It works significantly better than the older version of this same product locking in much quicker plus it can find the flag MUCH easier.

My dad and I both use this when we are playing golf and find it to be completely reliable. You will also find additional uses for your Yardage Pro Laser Rangefinder. I use my for sighting in my rifle and for all sorts of other things.

One small downside. You do have to drag it out and sight in every time you need a measurement and that does get a bit tiresome. The GPS units that are on some golf carts on some courses are VERY convenient but do not give precise yardage to the pin and other objects.

I heartily recommend this product! It delivers exactly as promised.
